We start at gaps found during the free assessment.
Rote learning of times tables, as a base from which to build complex mathematical ideas, is an important component of each lesson. If students have not mastered the basics of arithmetic, we address these issues using algorithmic processes before moving on to fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, graphs, geometry, statistics and probability, and general problem solving.
Senior students usually come with specific problems related to NCEA understanding, but we sometimes need to step back to fill gaps in understanding, before moving forward.
